Getting The Best From Your Tanzania Safari Tours

Tanzania has a rich human history to it considering that this is where the earliest human fossils were found. Apart from the amazing fact of being the oldest areas to be inhabited in the world, it also boasts lots of wild animals and exotic birds making it a great destination for those who love safaris. This is also home to the highest mountain in Africa. Safari tours to this great country will allow you to enjoy the very best of what it has to offer, but just like any other holiday destination, there is a need to plan in advance to ensure that you have the most memorable moments during your stay.

1. Know and visit the top attractions

You can never run out of places to visit and things to do while in Tanzania. The top most areas you should consider making part of your safari list include Mount Kilimanjaro which is now an inactive volcanic mountain and so you can trek and climb and get to see volcanic cones. The Serengeti National Park, Ngongoro Conservation Area, Pemba Island and Ruaha National Park are some of the other interesting areas you should definitely make part of your tour. Other areas you will find worth visiting are Bongoyo Island, House of Wonders and Lake Victoria and Lake Manyara National Park.

2. Get a tour guide and find the right tour package

Tour companies located in the country put together safari packages to suit the different preferences of the visitors and tourists. Choose the best company and go through the safari packages to ensure that you get one that has just what you wish to enjoy. In case you cannot find anything suiting your preferences, you can always find out how possible it is for the service providers to put together a personalized tour just for you. If you are new in the country, then a tour guide will definitely come in handy. The guide will not only help you explore and relate to the attractions but can also get you familiar with the local Swahili language where need be.

3. Choose the right travelling season

Tanzania has dry and wet seasons throughout the year and the conditions can determine just how much you get to see and enjoy. When choosing your private safari tours, ensure that you time them to a season that will get you the most from the visit. Dry seasons seem to be some of the best to take a safari but you can compare both seasons and choose according to what you feel is most ideal for your kind of visit.

4. Pack right

Considering safari tours are generally outdoors, you should prepare by ensuring that you pack right for your tour. Pack clothing according to the weather conditions, but also according to the rules, especially when visiting animal parks. If you are not sure what is ideal you can always get insight from your travel agent. A camera and binoculars are some of the other things you may want to bring handy.

The Mystic Heart: Discovering A Universal Spirituality in the World’s Religions by Wayne Teasdale

What a wonderful book that describes a universal spirituality, one in which we welcome and accept all religions and spiritual paths. Wayne Teasdale is a monk who combines Christianity and Hinduism. Reading his book makes you feel as if you are in the presence of a wise, holy man. Rarely do I desire to meet an author after reading his work, yet in this case that is exactly what I wanted to do. Alas, he died 2004, and I will have to be content with reading his two more recent books, which I will do.

While there is much in this book that I could discuss, I doubt if I could create the sense of peace and wisdom he conveys. I will focus on his Nine Elements of a Mature Interspirituality, or universal spirituality. You might want to evaluate which values are already strong in your life and which ones you most need to work on.

1) Moral Capacity

Love your neighbor as yourself and be compassionate, loving, kind and other-centered. This moral dimension of life is necessary for spirituality.

2) Solidarity with All Living Beings

This relates to the First Cosmic Principle, “Everything is Connected.” All life, the natural world and the universe are interconnected. This understanding of interrelatedness is another requirement for spirituality.

3) Deep Nonviolence

Accept others as yourself and see all life as precious. Gentleness, calm and patience are needed in all aspects of non-harming. Most societies don’t understand or practice this, as war and strife abound in the world. Aggressive behavior is learned, however, not innate to human nature. Now is the time to practice and accept nonviolence in all aspects of life.

4) Humility

This is an egoless understanding of one’s limitations and the truth of one’s self. Be who you are, or “who God intended you to be.” Being humble is that simple. One must be modest about oneself and live with a selflessness that includes a lack of boasting, vanity or self-assertiveness.

5) Spiritual Practice

This is necessary for inner growth. Daily practice is important and transformative. There are many forms of spiritual practice, from chanting to reading to prayer. All forms are acceptable; just choose one that works for you.

6) Mature Self-Knowledge

This depends on truth and honesty. We must move beyond denial of our faults and limitations.

7) Simplicity of Life

How we live our lives, how we use earth’s resources and how we relate to other humans and animals – all of this is about the simplicity of life. When we grow spiritually and become inward focused, our lives naturally become simpler. Mother Teresa was a good example of this as she insisted that her sisters live among the poorest of the poor. While we don’t need to go to those extremes, we should concentrate not on many things but a few things used well, especially in service to others. I like that statement – too often we try to do too much, assuming more is better. Simplicity of life is telling us that less is more. Choose who and what you are — and be and do that. Simplicity clears away all non-essentials and is the “inner law of spiritual life.”

8) Selfless Service and Compassionate Action

What do we do about the suffering of the poor and oppressed, the ecological degradation of the earth, and threats to world peace and stability? The answer is that women and men of spiritual wisdom must make a positive contribution. Each of us must learn to serve in whatever way is appropriate. No one way is right or wrong. We simply need to help those less fortunate.

Our own spiritual growth is one form of selfless service and prayer counts as a way to help the less fortunate. Each of us is called upon to provide service and action in a unique way. Know what is right for you and focus on that.

9) Prophetic Voice

The moral voice needs to be heard. We must acknowledge unjust events and policies: “We have a universal responsibility… whenever we see justice disregarded, threats to world peace, oppression by states against its people or a neighboring nation, or some other danger as yet unforeseen.” This same responsibility occurs within our own families or communities.

Authentic spirituality also means that political aims are not above the demands of justice. Have we gone so far being politically correct that we have ignored what is right? We each have a responsibility to be aware and act on these issues.

Amos Hostetter – World’s Best Traders Learned From Him

Amos Hostetter was the founder of Commodities Corporation. Located in Princeton, N.J., it became one of the most successful and influential trading entities ever. Ultimately, Goldman Sachs bought it out in 1997, so it is no more. This is where many of today’s best traders learned their craft. The list includes Ed Seykota, Michael Marcus, Bruce Kovner, Paul Tudor Jones, Louis Bacon, and others. These are some of the most successful and best traders the world has ever known.

Hostetter was a brilliant trader with rock solid trading principles. His success was astonishing up until his untimely death in 1977. I am going to share with you some of the reasons why he was so successful. What was his method? What were some of the main trading principles he implemented to get such superb trading results?

Trend following was the method that Hostetter implemented to achieve his amazing trading results. In my opinion, trend following is the most successful trading method. You can profit in up or down markets. There is no guesswork in your trading decisions. It does an excellent job of letting profits run, cutting losses short, and much more. I have been implementing the method of trend following for many years, and I will say its works exceptionally well.

To be successful trading the markets you need to follow principles that have been proven successful over a long time. Here are some of the principles Hostetter followed to amass a fortune trading the various markets.

Hostetter, a trend follower, said it is important to find a long term trend and ride it up. Stay with the trend until clear technical evidence tells you it is over. Patience is a key trait shared by most of the world’s best traders.

Money management is crucial. Hostetter believed in using stop loss orders to keep a loss small, if the market moved against him. He would also implement trailing stop losses to protect his profit as the market advanced in his favor. Stop loss orders are an excellent tool which I use on virtually every trade I make.

Hostetter believed that observation of the market gives the best tips of all. He said to follow your experience to exploit them, while only sticking to facts. It is important to do your own analysis and research. Become proficient at technical analysis. Learn the proven chart patterns, and analyze their price and volume action.

The keys to successful trading are to find a successful method that fits your personality. Trend following was perfect for Hostetter. Couple that with sound money management. Hostetter said to take care of your losses and the profits will take care of themselves. No truer words have ever been spoken in the world of trading. The world’s best traders know this well.

Turning Passions Into Profits – Author Christopher Howard

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying “People love chopping wood. In this activity one immediately sees results” and whilst I am not sure that today people love chopping wood, they certainly love seeing immediate results. Think for a moment about the lives of people around you maybe even yourself and see how the need for instantaneous results dominates our cultural psyche. It is all NOW! NOW! NOW! – We have become like a petulant 2 year old, screaming to whomever will listen – “I WANT IT NOW!” (please feel free to insert whatever IT is for you)

That is exactly how I was three years ago when I picked up the book “Turning Passions into Profits” by Christopher Howard. I was excited and motivated reading and re-reading the book, soaking up every word. I decided that I did not want to be a Billionaire and as Chris says ‘you can always scale it back’. So I set my sights on achieving the long-term results I wanted and used the tools and strategies as written.

Turning Passions into Profits provides specific techniques for closing the gap between where you are today and where you would like to be. In this book, Christopher Howard teaches powerful, innovative tools for modelling and replicating the ultimate success of some of the World’s greatest leaders and billionaires.

Not instantaneous results but instantaneous change cemented in place for MASSIVE results.

With the ability to select and incorporate some of the traits, strategies, thought patterns, and behaviours of those already achieving results, individuals can plot a course and arrive at a chosen destination greater than they ever thought possible.

When I look around at my life right now, it is miraculous! Sure there are still things I am working on but the long-term results I have achieved in nearly every aspect of my life far out shine any IMMEDIATE result I could have wanted for myself. I also have the confidence and assuredness that I created it all and will continue to creating even bigger results in the near future.

“The more you chase the Holy Grail of short term performance, the less you get in long-term results”. Walter Calbot.

If you want to create change that will create results you only dreamed possible then Christopher Howard’s “Turning Passions Into Profits” must be your next book to read and implement. And you too will have it take prime position on your Book Shelf.

Law of Attraction for Teenagers

Why a Special Article About Teenagers and LoA?

I have been asked by several folks to write an article about the Law of Attraction (LoA) and teenagers because teenagers are different. Really? Well, yes, they are different. However, they are not different in the way you may think. First, teenagers are, for the most part, still learning about themselves and their world so they are less likely to reject a philosophy or idea such as LoA without first examining it. Put another way, teenagers are less set in their ways than those who are 30, 40 or 50 and therefore have fewer bad energy habits to unlearn.

However, this article is as much for those who have teenagers in the house as it is for teenagers themselves. You see, those with teenagers have a special responsibility that is sometimes overlooked – the responsibility to be in alignment with Source and serve as an example. Teenagers are often looking for inspiration (not motivation) to guide them and are, among other things, paying close attention to the role models around them.

For Those with Teenagers

Everyone should aspire to stay in alignment with Source (often referred to as being centered or in touch with one’s inner self), but for those with teenagers, this is particularly important. Although they may seem to not be paying attention, teenagers watch their world (you in this case) closely and often form their foundational patterns from what they see and hear. If you are negative and blame everything on external forces, they won’t be impressed by your good words about having a positive outlook and being the creator of your own reality. Motivational words fall heavily to earth when spoken by an uninspired teacher. However, inspired actions from a place of alignment will make an impression that will serve your teenager for a lifetime. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be consistent and in alignment with who you really are.

For Teenagers

You are in a very powerful position as you can see the world more clearly than those who are older and may have fallen into poor energetic patterns. Trust yourself, trust your feelings, trust the Universe. Life is not hard – life is made hard by the resistance we offer. When I was growing up in the 1960s adults poked fun at the flower children who were fond of saying “take it easy man,” and “just go with the flow.”

However, I’ve learned that the power was with those enlightened young people and “going with the flow” was an expression for not resisting the Universe and enjoying the ride. In fact, I’ve found joy is the key to manifesting anything and everything you desire. You are at a point in your life where you are mature enough to form your own opinions but still young enough not to be blinded to the amazing power of joy. Listen to those who make sense to you but listen much harder to those who make your heart sing, even if their words seem strange. That singing you hear in your heart is your guidance system and it is both more powerful and more accurate than your logical thought.

Lastly, when you feel anger, sorrow, or fear, know that your guidance system is telling you that you are out of alignment with who you really are. Stop, take a breath and center yourself. Remember who you really are and recall that you create your reality. Then redirect your thoughts away from whatever caused you to fall out of alignment. Don’t push against it, just put it out of your mind and focus on a thought — any thought — that brings a smile to your face and joy to your heart. If that sounds silly enough to make you smile, then you get it and so does your inner self.

A Beginner’s Guide To Caring For A Yorkie Puppy

More and more dog lovers are falling in love with Yorkshire Terriers, which is why it isn’t a surprise that the breed is currently one of the most popular in the world. Caring and feeding your pet the right way while he’s still a pup will ensure that he will grow up happy, healthy and well-trained.

Nutrition

Even though Yorkshire Terriers are small in size, they need plenty of high-quality food and water to ensure good bone and muscle development especially now that he’s a growing pup. Food and water should be available at all times – it isn’t until they reach their fourth month that scheduled eatings should be implemented. Three small meals a day is ideal and experts recommend feeding your pet dry dog food during the first few months to lower the risk of diarrhea, but canned food can be introduced slowly later on.

Safety

When it comes to safety, Yorkie puppies should be constantly supervised like human babies as the world around them offers plenty of threats. The breed is particularly feisty and can easily be injured with intentional jumps or even falls from beds and couches. Small toys and any piece of clutter can be a choking hazard. Dropped human food can cause diarrhea and vomiting. Eventually, they will learn the dangers on their own but for now, keeping a close eye on them is important.

Discipline

Yorkshire Terriers are an intelligent breed, that’s why it’s ideal to train them as early as 8 weeks old. They’re also bold and playful and should be taught to stop excessive barking, chewing, nipping and other bad behaviors while they’re still young. The breed learns best through positive approaches and rewards instead of yelling when a training goal isn’t achieved.

Grooming

Yorkies are known for their long, beautiful manes which add to their charm. But this also means extra grooming care. Their fur needs to be washed and brushed regularly to keep it healthy and prevent tangles. The fur around their genitals should also be clipped regularly to keep the genitals clean. Lastly, owners should make sure that their dog’s nails are clean and short to prevent from being tangled in the fur.

Ensuring that your Yorkie is well-fed, well-disciplined, well-groomed and safe in his first year of life will ensure that he will grow up a good, independent dog and the rewards are for you to reap in the long run.

Honest Sony VAIO VPCEA390X Review

If you are a brand conscious and you are looking for something which is more gleaming and comes with bright colors and you want everything in your control then Sony VAIO VPCEA390X is the right answer. This notebook comes with the wide range to make you choose the color you like the most. Many people have this dream that they want everything to be yellow or just purple because they have the courage to run the world as they want. Considering the requirements of a general user, Sony VAIO has come up with this idea and designed Sony VAIO VPCEA390X.

The world of entrainment has grown very vast and rapidly, those days look centuries back when we used to go to friends for indoor games, or to play cards and do some physical activity. Now this is a 3D games era, when you go to a friend you make sure that your time worth it. Most of the students are working on the notebooks; you may go there to work together on the same project or assignment. You can impress your fiend to have all purple along with your notes and silver VAIO written on the top that will make it look more lustrous.

This time, Sony VAIO has designed incredibly amazing notebook by combining all best features in a single box which it named as VPCEA390X. Now let’s have a look at its technical specification, this gleaming notebook has Intel Pentium Dual Core P6100 processor as in base configurations; however you may have the same notebook with Intel turbo boost technology up to 3.33 GHZ. The default memory is 2GB but you can have it up to 8GB which if you have, you will be giving your friends a heart attack by showing them a glossy purple lid and then what you have inside is a roaring lion. The storage is also quite impressive, it stats from 320 GB and goes up to 500 GB. This machine comes with Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium and with Microsoft office 2010. If you are a normal user who just surf internet, do some researches, play games, then this notebook is for you.

But if you are a heavy graphic fan and crazy about games like war craft then Sony VAIO VPCEA390X may not be the one you are looking for. It comes with the graphic card Intel Graphics Media Accelerator which works with HD movies but that’s not what a real gamer wants. You can also upgrade it up to 1GB memory card but still it’s not what a gives you a trill while playing diehard games.

The Amazing Shaye Saint John

Shaye Saint John burst onto the YouTube scene in 2006, with short, usually 3-5 minute, works of absurdly beautiful bizarreness which achieved both epic horror status as well as absolute original comedic genius. Shaye garnered a relatively large following, most likely of which not knowing what in the hell to think of her, or him, or it. A DVD was created and put out by Indican Pictures in 2004. Apparently some festivals and curators had shown the work, but as usual, most experimental curators where asleep at the wheel having blindly passed up the amazing work of Shaye Saint John.

The character of Shaye consisted of other worldly, almost alien like qualities; talkng in an odd extraterrestrial like voice and looking like something between a crippled multiple amputee victim and a severely botched plastic surgery patient (a rough backstory had spread of Shaye being an ex model in a horrible car wreck left badly disfigured). Shaye rolled with her whatever condition and poised as some sort of starlet with entrepreneurial ventures such as skin tape sessions and drip drop diets. Her epic catch phrases (“gawd! gams! twenty four seven!”) were delivered in a way that was all Shaye; a language of her own, existing in a world of her own with her sometimes sidekick Kiki and (imaginary?) friends that she bantered with on the phone.

It appeared the Shaye action was taking place in Los Angeles as indicated by early street performances of Shaye being wheeled around in a wheelchair getting pictures taken with tourists in Hollywood. The L.A. scene was fitting, but really it could have been anywhere, USA, as we see the reality wannabee star transgressions exist country-wide; the allure of making it, dieting down to look like the celebrities and ultimately becoming that star or starlet in some fashion. All an ingrained American dream that draws allure from every crevice of the country.

A legend in her own mind Shaye seemed to be. But the Shaye legend was cemented solid electronically and worldwide through the digital landscape, as evidenced not only by the online views, but the strong reactions, utter confusions, and high accolades garnered; Shaye was indeed, the real deal.

In reality the real deal was Eric Fournier. He was the creator of Shaye Saint John. It’s unclear of the exact particulars; was he the one behind the bizarro mannequin mask? Was he the sped up other worldly voice? Since it appears many of the Shaye pieces have a “moving camera”, perhaps Eric was behind the lens, directing all of the action and providing dialogue. We only know of Eric from the “directorial” credit he did leave on the DVD. It was assumed that he played Shaye, but never confirmed to my knowledge.

Sadly, Eric died early this year in late February. There are some old producer credits on his IMBD page, and some notoriety attached to him from being in a known punk band during the 80’s called The Blood Farmers. Other than that, little has surfaced as of this writing and as of this writers online searching.

YouTube accounts don’t automatically die when the physical body ceases operation, so Shaye continues to live on in the electronic landscape, garnering more and more views daily. On the Shaye YouTube profile page the comments do report and recognize that Shaye (Eric) has passed. Many of the comments from hate to praise all show what a strong and effective absurdist force we have lost.

How Can I Rock His World in Bed? 5 of the Hottest Sex Tips to Make Your Man Erupt With Pleasure Now!

Even though it may sound like it is relatively easy to give a man pleasure in the bedroom, how do you truly know that you are doing a good job? Women can’t always rely on whether or not he ejaculates as he orgasms as an indication for pleasure, because sometimes, the male orgasm can play tricks on us. Sometimes, things aren’t always as they seem and that is something that women need to know.

Therefore, what can women do to ensure that they are doing everything possible to please their man in the bedroom? Since sex is such a vital and important part of a relationship, it is what separates from friends and lovers, it is something that we need to ensure we are doing everything in our power to make better and to last longer. So, you want to make sure that you are satisfying his every craving and desire. How do you know you are doing just that?

Sometimes it’s hard for us to be vocal about what we want when it comes to sexual satisfaction. We worry that we are going to offend our partner or say something that they might not want to hear. As a result, we end up continuing to get mediocre pleasure because they don’t know any better. This could be what is happening in your situation and you wouldn’t even know it.

To make sure that you are rocking his world in bed, you need to master these 5 super hot sex tips to make your man absolutely erupt with pleasure tonight. Then, you will know for certain that you are giving him what he wants in bed and that you might even be the first woman to do that for him.

#1 – Give him a show. Men go to the strippers for a reason – they like to look at nude women. That’s a no brainer. So why not bring the show to him? If the idea of some nude woman gyrating all over your man is not sitting well with you, then role play it and become the only exotic dancer in his eyes. Men are very visual, so by giving him a show, you will trigger something inside of him and he will be dying to have you. Up the ante and take it further by tying his hands down to a chair. The whole “you can look but you can’t touch” angle will drive him wild and when you do let him go, you will have to watch out because he will be going crazy for you.

#2 – Stimulate him before sex. You don’t always have to just rely on sex as a means to an end for your man, when there are so many incredibly sexy things that you can be doing for him. The arts of hand stimulation and oral stimulation can really go very far in the bedroom and don’t always have to be reserved for special occasions. If you can get him riled and revved up before you even make penetration together, you will be well on your way to ensuring he is getting the satisfaction he craves.

#3 – Let it go. All men will agree – there is nothing sexier in the bedroom than a woman who is able to let go and be confident with who she is. If you are going to wear one thing when you are intimate with him, make sure it is your confidence. That is what is the sexiest quality to him. The more you are able to truly let go and get lost in the moment with him, the better and harder you will rock his world. If turning the lights down low or putting on some music does that for you, go with it. Just make sure that you are comfortable because that is key.

#4 – Change it up. As harsh as it might be to say, men need constant stimulation or they might start thinking about something else or get lost in a train of thoughts completely unrelated to sex. Therefore, if you really want to make him erupt with pleasure, you have to change it up. Try making love in one position and then out of nowhere, beg for him to do something else to you. You want to keep him on his toes and you want him to be excited for what might happen next. This is what keeps him involved and interested. This is what you need to have happen.

#5 – Have fun. This is the biggest tip of all. If you aren’t enjoying yourself and having fun, then he definitely won’t be either. Energy is so huge when you are having sex and pleasing each other, so by being an enthusiastic lover, you will show him that you are having fun and in turn, so will he. Men are often always enjoying themselves sexually but they feel bad when that energy isn’t reciprocated. Show him that you are having fun and be yourself with it, because that is when you are at your sexiest.

The next time you want to rock your man’s world in the bedroom tonight, make sure that you are implementing some of these tips because they will surely set your love life on fire in a whole new way and solidify you as being the best he’s ever had.

10 Things I Learned About Teamwork From Dragon Boating

After moving to Vancouver a number of years ago I joined a corporate Dragon Boat Team. At the time I wanted to find a way to get fit after being in the office all day and I wanted to be on the water. It was an amazing activity where I developed a number of great friendships that I have today, long after the team dissolved.

There is no end to the books and articles on teambuilding. But it was Dragon Boating that provided me with a simple yet poignant metaphor for the experience of building and maintaining a high performing team. I reflected on how my team evolved from a group of individuals interested in Dragon Boating to a cohesive competitive team where each member of the team understood how to leverage his or her strengths and downplay weaknesses, their fit in the group and how to best contribute to the performance of the overall team. It was a remarkable experience. AND it was fun.

As you read through my 10 points I want you to reflect on your current team. Are any elements missing? What difference would it make if the success factor was present in your team? Would it help your team to reach its potential? In my experience there are very few teams who reach high performance.

Fast Track the Path to Success

I often work with people who want to increase the performance of their team. If you are a team, then why not be the best team you can and produce exceptional results for your organization? How do we get there? What do we need to do?

The following article points out what my experience has shown me to be some of the critical success factors. For those of you who Dragon Boat my comments may be familiar. For those who do not dragon boat, it is my hope that the fun metaphor causes you to reflect seriously on the performance of you team.

Number 1: Timing and technique are more critical than power and strength

In many sports individual performance, strength, agility etc. are the focus of attention. The first skill the coach worked with us on was to have the entire team row in time with the same technique. It is amazing that a team with less brute strength can outperform a stronger boat on timing alone. This is the

1+1 is >2 principle in action. This does not mean that individualism is lost, but that individualism serves the overall purpose of the team. Otherwise, you are a group of individual contributors in a working group, but not a team. When all the paddles stroke in time the boat moves faster than the boat with stronger rowers who are not in time; using their energy against each other rather than focusing on their timing and technique.

Focus on ensuring that members of the team are working toward the same goal. Everyone on the team should be able to tell you how they contribute to the purpose and goals of the team.

Number 2: There is no replacement for a talented steersperson

With a good steersperson, whom the team trusts, each paddler is freed up to focus on their job. They are not worried about other boats, what direction this boat is going, how the boat will navigate the wake etc. In fact, the real job of the steersperson, beyond the technical ability to steer to boat, is to instill confidence in paddlers. The team does not lose energy distracted by problems that they cannot solve but on achieving the goals of the team.

Focus on team leadership that allows members of the team to perform their roles knowing that ‘things’ are being taken care of.

Number 3: One person out of time can cost the race for the whole team

This sounds like the inverse of number one. It is about what happens when even one person behaves in a way that compromises the performance of the team? This is where the steersperson and coach come in. Often the individual does not know that their performance is putting the team’s performance at risk. It is seldom about willingness or even the ability to perform but rather an understanding of the impact of their performance. Feedback is critical in ensuring that the members of the team move forward together.

Focus on providing data based performance feedback to the team including the impact of current performance both positive and corrective. Team members need to get objective feedback on their performance and what plan corrective measures to improve.

Number 4: You train long and hard for a short and intense race

Plans mean nothing if the team is not able to achieve its goal. Teams work hard, often on long term projects but realize that the measure of the value of the work is in implementation. Results are the measure of a team’s success.

Focus on the ability to achieve exceptional results.

Number 5: There is no “luggage” in the boat; everyone contributes

Boy, we all have bad days, but guess what, the team deserves your best even on those days. We all cover for each other when it is needed but everyone contributes..

Focus on helping team members understand their contribution and seek opportunities for them to apply their strengths more often.

Number 6: Treat other teams with respect but don’t get distracted

In the heat of a race it is easy to notice where the other teams are in the race and get distracted. But you can only control what happens in your boat not theirs. There is nothing you can do about what happens in their boat. You have all the control over what you do in your boat. A team with a strong start may not have the stamina to complete the race by continuing their opening speed. Focus your attention on your purpose and the results.

Focus on what the team can accomplish with the resources it has.

Number 7: There is always more to learn

No matter what your role or how long you have been with the team, or how many races you have been in, there are always things to learn. Not matter how good you are you can always be better. The coach would move us around to different positions so that we would learn new skills and perspective.

Focus on ensuring that everyone on the team is actively learning all the time.

Number 8: The lead paddlers (strokes) set the pace

There is incredible benefit from everyone on the team working in concert towards the same goal. Leaders in the team set the direction, provide visible support for the values of the team and hold themselves and others accountable for the performance of the team. Everyone is accountable to be in time with the strokes. It is not ones business but mine to watch and pay attention. Remember, one person out of time can cost a race.

Focus on leaders holding themselves and other accountable for success.

Number 9: You paddle as hard on a bad day as on a good day

A manager friend of mine said to her employees after being challenged about the lack of loyalty in the organization, “I do not want your loyalty, I want your commitment.” It is important the each member of the team is fully present all the time, whether in practice or in competition.

Focus on every individual on the team performing their best everyday.

Number 10:Teams win and teams lose, not individuals

In Dragon Boating, teams win, not individuals. The entire boat crosses the finish line or it does not. The people at the front of the boat or the steersperson do not get more of the ‘win’ that others. The team wins or the team loses. We are all one team.

Focus on being all one team. Individual skills, style, experience and knowledge all contribute to the work of the team. At the end of the day, we are all one team who achieve the results or not.

By ensuring that these top 10 success factors are implemented you can develop your team’s effectiveness. We hope that these 10 Success Factors helped you to reflect on the factors that need to be considered and planned a highly effective, high performing team.
